The hike to the Alimonta Mountain Hut<\/strong> is perhaps one of the most rewarding in the Dolomites; although it is not exactly a short walk, the effort and exertion involved are more than rewarded by the view<\/strong> and the chance to discover a truly unique setting.<\/p>\n

The departure point: the Grost\u00e9 Cable Car<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The route starts at an altitude of 2,442 metres from the top station of the Grost\u00e8 cable car. Follow path 316<\/strong> for about 1 hour and 15 minutes towards the Tuckett Refuge<\/strong>; the walk is mostly flat and slightly downhill across moraines. <\/p>\n

From the Tuckett Refuge, continue along the Fredolin path<\/em> no. 328, through bushes of rare flowers and mountain pines, maintaining the same altitude. Near the Fredolin saddle, turn south at the junction with the dirt track to the Brentei Refuge<\/strong>, no. 318, which lies in the shadow of two enormous Dolomite peaks, the Crozzon di Brenta<\/strong> and the Cima Tosa<\/strong>. After about an hour and a half of easy walking on soft ground, you reach the Brentei Refuge (2182).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The final and most challenging section is the climb from the Brentei Mountain Hut<\/strong> to the Alimonta Mountain Hut<\/strong>: it is a short, steep and demanding ascent that takes about an hour to complete. <\/p>\n

The climb takes you to an altitude of 2,580 metres and is not the easiest, but the view is well worth the effort: an unusual, lunar<\/em> landscape, surrounded by a forest of Dolomite peaks<\/strong>, with no sign of human habitation. A communion with nature that celebrates the best holiday in the Dolomites<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The return journey follows your own tracks back to the Fredolin saddle, before turning towards the Casinei and Vallesinella huts.<\/p>\n
